The company has over 40 years’ experience in the field and is Australia’s only manufacturer of Q&T steel products. Crafted by Bisalloy Steels Ltd in Unanderra, NSW, BISALLOY® performance steel begins with a carefully formulated alloy steel plate made by BlueScope at the nearby Port Kembla Steel Works. Bisalloy manufactures its range of performance steel products in four main product areas: ‘high wear resistance’, ‘high strength’, ‘armour’ and ‘protection grade specialty steels’ – of these, BlueScope Distribution primarily distributes two key grades, BISALLOY® WEAR steel and BISALLOY® STRUCTURAL steel. BISALLOY® ARMOUR steel has been supplied to Australian defence industry partners for many years, with Bisalloy contributing a range of steel products that are used to manufacture vital military equipment including Armoured Personnel Carriers, Light Armoured Vehicle and the ‘Bushmaster’ Infantry Mobility Vehicles. Military use aside, BISALLOY® ARMOUR steel is also widely used by government, private corporations and the Police – all these end users require high performance and reliability to ensure safety in day-to-day operations. Some uses include for security vehicles and security booths, training facilities, embassy ‘safe rooms’, splinter boxes and more. Industries including mining, construction and agriculture are avid users of BISALLOY® WEAR steel plate, applying the material in equipment such as tip truck bodies, storage bins, hoppers and chutes. In these applications, having a durable material that is wear and impact resistant, is vital. While the material meets the serious demands placed on steel components in the world’s harshest working environments, BISALLOY® Wear steel grades ensure that properties such as ductility and weldability are not compromised, maintaining fabrication qualities that make this steel so easy to manufacture with. The high-strength properties of BISALLOY® STRUCTURAL steel provide manufacturers, engineers, industrial designers and architects with the scope to deliver size, weight and cost savings while still meeting strength requirements. This steel makes it possible to build taller towers, span larger rooms and specify smaller columns in construction and engineering applications, reducing the quantity of steel required for a project and, in turn, potentially reducing steel costs. In rail and road transport applications, where efficiency closely affects the bottom line, BISALLOY® STRUCTURAL steel can reduce a vehicle’s tare weight, allowing it to legally carry more payload, therefore increasing productivity. The range was specifically developed for shielding applications, but without the requirement for full military specification armour grade steel. As well as being extremely tough, BISALLOY® PROTECTION steel offers impressive shock loading resistance and from a fabrication perspective, is extremely versatile and easy to work with, being easily formed, fabricated and welded as required. Typical applications for BISALLOY® PROTECTION steel include for use in light armoured vehicles, land and sea patrol vehicles, cash in transit trucks, safes and strongboxes, security booths and safe rooms.
