Amanda Czyz began her career at BlueScope in 2008, providing administration support for the No.5 Blast Furnace Reline Project at the Port Kembla BlueScope Mill. Amanda was inspired to join BlueScope because both her father and sister worked there and loved their jobs. Their experiences made her eager to become part of the BlueScope team. Initially joining BlueScope in a part time role, Amanda was also running her own business as an artist. Her focus soon shifted towards a long-term career at BlueScope. “Who would have known back then that I would end up leading TheHub’s operations team?” she reflects.
Role Progression
Amanda’s career at BlueScope has been marked by a diverse range of roles, including Administration Support, Supervisor, National Operations Coordinator, Technical Coordinator, Acting Manager for the Plate Mill, and now Operations Manager for TheHub. “The diversity of the roles I have held has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of my career,” she says.
Supportive environment and continuous learning
Amanda attributes her success to building a strong network and support system across several businesses within BlueScope, as well as completing her Masters of Business Administration while working full-time. She emphasises the importance of not being too hard on yourself when learning new processes within different business units. “Every time you change roles and business units, you have to start the learning journey again. It’s okay not to be an expert, but you need to learn and grow,” she advises.
Professional development and achievements
Amanda has been fortunate to participate in various professional development programs, including Women Rising, Leaders Essentials, Managers Essentials, and Empowering Safety. She has also completed a Diploma in Leadership and Management and an MBA. One of her proudest achievements is becoming the Operations Manager at TheHub and leading her team to achieve record-breaking results month after month.
Looking ahead
For now, Amanda is happy in her role as Operations Manager and enjoys working with her team. She looks forward to continuing to grow and contribute to the success of BlueScope Distribution.
